25th April every year marks Italy’s liberation from Nazi-facism. On this 79th commemoration of Italian Liberation Day, we wish to support the resistance of the Palestinian People against the Israeli aggression and over 70 years of illegal occupation of their lands. We also acknowledge the ongoing resistance to colonisation by the First Nations Peoples in Australia

Speakers, Music, Song and Film

Lucia Sorbera

Chair of Discipline of Arabic Language and Cultures at the University of Sydney, specialised in the colonial and post-colonial history of the Arab World and Africa, with a focus on women and gender. Has published widely in history of Egyptian feminism, women’s political activism and cultural productions in the Arab world.

Ala’a Al Qaisi
Palestinian Australian filmmaker and activist, is a member of The Palestine Justice Movement in Sydney which organises political, social and cultural events that focus on the Palestinian cause and the war on Gaza. Ala’a has made a number of short films that shed light on the Palestinian cause, women’s empowerment and social justice.

Shamikh Badra
A leading member of the Palestinian People’s Party and responsible for youth and students sections while in Gaza, as well as a member of the National Committee for Palestinian factions of PLO. Is one of the founding members of the Northern Beaches Committee for Palestine and a former Convenor of the Coalition for Peace and Justice in Palestine.

FILM: Fabio Cavadini and Mandy King of Frontyard Films will present excerpts from “Come Walk With Us”. Thomas Mayo, Uncle Terry O’Shane, John Maynard & Vicki Morta appear in this documentary which was produced to promote the voices of Indigenous people who saw the constitutionally enshrined Voice to Parliament as a step to greater self-determination. The film is being expanded to include the Referendum itself, the result and their ideas about Where to after the Referendum – Voice,
Treaty, Truth and First Nations’ Voices – What’s next in the Struggle
